The photo below is a present from one of my guests when I’m still working in St. Georges Club, in St. George’s Bermuda. This is around 2018.
I said that I have been dreaming to drive an isuzu pick up truck and we just had a good conversation and this is what he left me. Thank you for your kindness.
In everything you receive, be thankful.
Never expect anything else.
Did you know why people gives? Because they appreciate you, of whatever service you do to them or to their family.
So, be nice and extend a helping hand to those who are in need.
The return is a thousand fold with out you knowing.
If you want to see results in 3 months or less, reach out and find out how can I help you and your business be stable and grow with or without this pandemic.
This is the best time for collaboration, whatever questions you have in your mind about your business or your work, let us picture that together and I will give you what I thought about it.
Before 2021 closes, let me share to you the one thing that is missing in the food service industry.
As part of my previous post, Can I help, I ask your opinion on what do you think is missing in our service providers in the restaurant.
Is it the experience, work ethic, lack of training or politics (management intervention)? None of these are.
The one thing that is missing in our work force is F O C U S.
Yes, everything can be learned. That is why, as a manager, I don’t mind hiring applicants who doesn’t have or have a little experience in the industry.
I would rather train fresh minds than to train experienced employees who is not willing to learn new things.
Based on experience, I can tell you if an employee have the potential to grow or just a mediocre.
I don’t intend to degrade or downgrade these types of employees, this is them being typical to be in the mindset of keeping their job for decades and love talking and complaining but no result.
You know where I am going with this, I am willing to train amateurs and encourage them to excel and do extra work. At the end, this advise of be Focus on the things you do will bring positive results.
How?
You work as part of a team, you excel and others will envy you and even ask you why are you doing this and that extra thing. When a person or a colleague start talking to you this way, you know that you pass the test.
You are doing great and by practicing it, you will never feel working a single day of your time.
With this, you are now prepared to take responsibilities and ready for the next promotion.
You deserve it amongst others who have more work experience than you do.
It is sad to see in my 15 years in the industry to outsource Managers, from other places or even other countries. Why business owners cannot promote old staff to take the vacant position?
This is a simple picture of an employee being in the company for more than a decade and still didn’t contribute a thing to get better. Why as such that it is so obvious? Because, somehow, number speaks. Companies should make money in order to survive and expand, but if the business fails, it has something to do with its workforce. Starting from the Manager, servers, cook, down to the person who is cleaning the trash.
So, what should you do to contribute?
F – ind a way to be
O – utstanding and
C – ut your
U – ltimate selfishness to
S – erve and be different
My advise to all experienced personnel in the food and beverage sector, take advantage and learn as much as you can. Be a leader, share your experience and be a business owner.
I know it takes guts, and never be an easy path. Just take a look at the other side of the picture, you will be the decision maker and you will help your community create some jobs.
I want to share something that is happening in a work environment.
In most cases, companies have hierarchy, you the the top guy, the middle guy and the low guy.
In a big company with a massive employ Es, there tend to be more of competition and this always goes along with experience.
Let’s say one employ E tenure is more than the new recruit, they called it seniority.
In other cases, some employ E who have more experience and serve the company for so many just don’t take the advantage to lead. This turns out that somehow, new recruits are more interested in doing the extra mile. This then is what I call superiority. Superior to take the wheel, to advance in the ladder of success.
Only one thing I would say, if being superior means to take advantage of others, then this person has no room in your organization. But, if being superior leads everyone to take responsibility, then it will benefit everybody including the company itself.
There you go, watch out for your staff who excels. Get rid of the once who take advantage.
A word that is felt by many people including business industries.
Struggle to find man power to run your business. Struggle to find the right people to keep for the long term. Struggle to get promoted. Struggle to get going.
In reality, this word is more than century old when our elders strive to make life better. They felt it, they have dealt with it and carried by the next generations. Luckily today, we can minimize to be struggling, how do we do that? By, changing, your, mind.
This is not a secret. This has been proven many times by science and can be measured nowadays. The only and only issue is You, the individual’s perception of things. How you absorb and deal with things is the key to be different.
Practice, practice and practice.
As soon as you try it, then you will notice a change on how things works.
If you need to talk or meet, give me a shout. Let us be the models of our generation and to the next.
P.S.
If you haven’t notice, I didn’t mention any negative things, why? Because I don’t want to invite any small things of darkness in my thoughts. This is what makes me different. I see opportunity in so many ways even I know it is hard to achieve.
If there’s a will, there’s a way. Everything follows.
For companies in 2021, it’s hard to find talents and people willing to do the extra work.
It’s not new that most young people nowadays have a side gig or two to survive. I do believe you and I are one of them.
Today, there are so many shortages of workforce and man power in most industries. Only and only if companies like #Tesla and others produce #Robots that can do these labor works in no time.
Side hustle can be a full time when it is being introduced. A couple of hours here and couple hours there will do. The issue are, how businesses find these people and how to encourage them to work for short hours and make some bucks.
In Canada, this is one of the opportunities that is waiting to explode. The country is looking for experienced talents to help boost and regenerate the economy.
How? This is where the work starts. A process, a commitment, and enthusiasm to find talents, build relationship with other business owners and coordinating with the government to see how can we turn things around.
It is a matter of time, and it is very near that it can be done.
Over the years, we tend to wait for the right time.
Today, it doesn’t apply anymore.
When you want to accomplish a thing, you have to start working now and build the result.
Waiting is being coward, if you want to be successful, you move yourself and waste no time waiting orders from others.
That is why, being in the work force is not a bad thing, you need to have that experience and develop it to create your own for much better results.
In Canada, the labor force is waiting to explode. Not much people are willing to go back to work or should we say, there is no job.
There are jobs, it is only that, employers look for the best talents to work for/with them.
Not all have the spirit to be on top of their game, and a sad truth applies being an employee and entrepreneur.
There is a way to work this out. Both ways benefits each other if there is an open communication.
For young folks striving to look for a living, food and beverage industry is in need of thousands of assistance.
A little piece of advice, don’t be shy to start from the bottom. Learn everything you need to learn about the job and develop. If you put a passion into it, you might be promoted on the spot.
Sure thing, it will take time, but, it always pays off.
